OVERBREATHING: A major missconception
by Michael G. White, The Breathing Coach

Overbreathing is essentially looked upon as breathing too much. In science it is related to hyperventilation, dyspnea, hypocapnea. In music it is called overbreathing; too much inhale or exhale that causes breathing or sound production problems.

Scientifically, I say overbreathing is a symptom and not a cause. The primary cause of overbreathing is unbalanced deep breathing or UDB because overbreathing largely stems from poorly developed breathing mechanics. Allergies, toxemia and bad air seemingly worsen overbreathing but overbreathing does not exist without UDB. When optimal breathing development is implemented these so called overbreathing symptoms reduce and disappear.

The missconception and incorrect implication is that oxygen is negative and too much oxygen is the problem. This is wrong thinking as it gives a negative connotation to oxygen and unfairly supports the illness model of western medicine. Carbon dioxide is important. Oxygen is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more important.
